Communications

We know that it is so important for parents and teachers have good communications.  At Broadfields, we have four ways to support everybody sharing in the information needed to enable the school to work most effectively to support the children best.

  1. Face to face! Most important! Please never feel worried or apprehensive about talking to us about any matter of concern. We are all here to help. If you want to make an appointment to speak to us, either catch us in person, email us (teachers emails are on year group webpages) or pop into the office to arrange a meeting.
  2. Classdojo app. Keep up to date with what is going on at school through our school story, receive and send messages and check on your child's behaviour! All parents receive a login. Need help with this app? See the office. Really important to use this service as we will use dojo increasingly to provide parents with important information about events, trips, notices etc
  3. Broadfields website. This website is major source of information about the school. It has its own search function. Type the subject of your query into the box at the top right of the screen.

Consultation:

Nursery Places for 1 Year Olds

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to discuss proposed changes to the provision at Broadfields Primary School which requires lowering of the school’s age range.  In line with legal requirements, the Board of Trustees are carrying out a preliminary consultation on the proposed changes.

The consultation period will run for 4 weeks from Monday 20th May to Tuesday 18th June 2024. The board will consider all comments received during the consultation period. We are consulting with all stakeholders as required by law when making changes to school age range arrangements, and will also advertise the proposal locally in order to gather the views of the wider community, including the other schools and pre-schools.

What change is being proposed?

Broadfields nursery currently admits children the term after they turn 2.  We would like to lower this age to 1 year to allow parents within our community the opportunity to gain a high quality nursery place at Broadfields for their young child.

We will offer 9 places for 1 year olds.

This will make the school's age range 1 - 11 years rather than the current 2 - 11 years.

The proposed change will not change the school's determined admissions arrangements. Children who attend Broadfields nursery will not be guaranteed a place at the school.

Why is the school proposing this change?

Lowering the age range has been raised by a significant number of parents who currently register their children with other carers/nurseries at the age of 1 and then have to reregister them with school for the term after they turn 2.

The main benefits of the proposed merger include:

  • Children are able to start education at the age of 1 without needing to move from setting to setting.
  • A smooth transition through the school for children
  • Closer working relationships between the staff working across the age range.
  • Further access to early support and interventions for those children with additional needs.
  • Access to before and after school care provision for parents of nursery children from the age of 1.

Will the proposed change result in any impact on current Broadfields provision?

We cannot foresee any adverse effect on the existing provision as the pre-school would carry on as normal and the day-to-day operations would continue to be run by the EYFS lead.

What will the impact be for other providers locally?

There may be some impact upon other local providers but this impact would only be for a short period as the children would naturally transfer as soon as they are able to.

What is the consultation process?

This is the statutory consultation process that the school is required to undertake regarding the proposed change.

Consultation period: 4 weeks from Monday 20th May to Tuesday 8th July 2024.  The board will consider the responses on receipt.
